The High Cost of Cheap

The High Cost of cheap

Saving a few hundred dollars can cost you more than you imagine

bride crying from ruining her wedding by getting the cheapest DJ should could find, not realizing she was putting 80% of her entire event in their hands.

I don’t even have enough space on here to tell you my DJ horror stories; pretty much what everyone else mentioned and more. The answer to this is, unfortunately, to not cheap out on your DJ.

wrong music

Don’t end up with music you didn’t want for your event. Professional DJs have a vast collection of all the right music to create the atmosphere, and the party, you’re looking for.

Bad Emcee

Some ‘Wedding DJs’ don’t talk at all, and others talk too much. Some curse on the mic, others tell you to kick rocks. A professional DJ will be able to guide your guests through your event without making it sound like they’re scared to be there or like they’re treating it like their personal karaoke night.

failing/cheap equipment

While you might not know the difference in your wedding DJ’s equipment if you ask, believe me, you’ll know when they play at your event. Cheap equipment can sound awful, fail in the middle of your ceremony, or distract from what’s really important. Professional DJs use professional gear. It’s more expensive, but it’s worth it.

late!!!

If they’re not professional you could find out when they show up late to your event, throwing your whole timline off!

no call / no show

We take calls every week from couples who are horrified to learn their DJ is backing out on them at the last minute or, even worse, who just decided not to show up. Professional DJs will never leave you at the altar. They’re with you every step of the way so you can relax.

unprofessional

It’s not just their foul language, it’s their treatment of you, your guests, and your other vendors that could be on the line as well. Imagine your guests being so upset by what the DJ said to them that they had to leave! Or imagine your DJ showing up in jeans and a t-shirt while everyone else is in suits and dresses! Professional DJs cover all your bases for you.

Bad Event direction

Your DJ is responsible for 75%-80% of the average North Carolina wedding, even if you have a wedding coordinator. It’s even more in places like New York, Miami, and Canada. Event Direction is how your DJ manages all the different elements you’ve included as part of your plan and making it happen. If they’re not experienced at this, you just handed the keys to your entire event to someone who doesn’t know how to drive. Trust a professional wedding DJ to make it right.

3 SNEAKERS IN A DRYER

Mixing music isn’t just about formatting, it’s also about music theory and knowing WHEN the right moment to transition is. Cutting songs off in the middle of the chorus, or dropping on the wrong beat, or making two songs play over each other so that it sounds like 3 sneakers in a dryer, are all sonic signatures that can make your wedding experience worse than it should be.

We were on a tight budget so we hired our ‘friend’ to do it. Right before the wedding he backed out on us, saying he wasn’t ‘comfortable’ doing it. We had two days to get another DJ and I was so stressed. He never refunded the money we gave him and we haven’t seen him since. My advice is simple – hire the right person first.
